two thieves tricked an Asian investor and his companion with a false bitcoin plan. The two thieves took nearly $50,000, three phones, and papers from them.
The criminal judge ordered the offenders’ deportation after their time. Court also sentenced them to three years behind bars.
Dubai’s Crime
The attack allegedly occurred in Dubai’s Mankhool neighborhood in July last year. At that time, an unnamed person and a colleague opted to invest in Bitcoin. The two sought the assistance of a shady promoter.
The dealer called him before going to one of the investors’ homes. He asked to view the cash worth of the cryptocurrencies the victims wanted to buy. Then he offered to come back in 15 minutes with someone else who would sell them BTC.
The buyers were still inside the property waiting. Two offenders knocked on the door a little while later and came inside. They beat the clients and seized the bag, which included three phones, documents, and Dh183,000. One of the investors was even the target of death threats.
Courts Final Verdict
Officers of the regional police agency launched an investigation. The investigations lead to the arrests of the offenders. The Dubai Criminal Court imposed a three-year prison term on them. They were also given monetary penalties equal to the sum of the stolen funds. Once the offenders are freed from prison, the government directs their deportation.
Tuenti’s Founder’s Case
The founder of Tuenti Technologies and American computer scientist Zaryn Dentzel encountered a similar attack the previous year. Five thugs attacked him in his Madrid home. He was subjected to violence to divulge the password to his Bitcoin accounts.
Dentzel was allegedly beaten for hours by those who had him bound up. Before being chopped and even electrocuted, Zaryn never gave them the encryption keys.
Zaryn later admitted to owning Bitcoin valued at “millions of Euros.” Prior to escaping, the thieves also stole tablets, computers, and phones. They also took the cryptocurrency stockpile.
They fled the house they had entered separately. They made their way while the janitor was out for lunch after. They cleared up the tracks and sprayed the victims with cleaning solutions.
It took the Security Forces of Spain about a year to make any convictions about the crime. A month ago, police officers seized three men and one lady. The police claimed they were emigrants from Eastern Europe.
